What is this wrench used for?
It removes and tightens the spanner nut (tub nut) that holds the hub on top-load washers. You only need it when your repair involves taking that nut off, such as a hub replacement.
Do I need this wrench to install the W10324651-BA All-Metal Hub V2?
Yes - a TB123A or TB123B spanner wrench is required to tighten the tub nut, along with blue threadlocker on the nut. Neither comes with the hub kit.
What else do I need for the all-metal hub repair? Do I need the gear case shim kit?
You need the W10324651-BA All-Metal Hub V2 (it includes the .75mm shim), this wrench and blue threadlocker. The separate gear case shim kit isn't needed with the V2 hub.
Do I have to remove the tub to replace the hub?
No - the tub only comes out if you also install the optional red 52719 basket tub bushing. The bushing can improve results but isn't required for the hub repair.
The wash plate won't come off. Any tips before I cut it?
Try a ratchet strap under the wash plate for upward pull while gently tapping around the shaft, or carefully warm the hub area with a heat gun. Cutting it off is the last resort.
After tightening, there's a small gap between the metal hub and the tub. Is that normal?
Yes - a small gap is normal. Make sure the hub splines are fully seated on the shaft and the nut is tightened down with the spanner wrench and threadlocker.
