Is this the main control board?

No - this is the inverter (motor control) board. The main control board is a separate part that varies by model, so contact us with your model number for the right one.

I get code 3 and the spin test stops after a few seconds. Does that mean the inverter board is bad?

No - not always. Code 3 with a short spin test can come from this board, the motor, the accelerometer or the control board. Check harness connections and confirm before replacing.

Does this replace WH22X35837 or the 290D2861G101 number on my old inverter board?

Yes - WH22X38837 replaces WH22X35837 and supersedes the 290D2861G101 number printed on the original inverter board.

Could other parts also need replacing?

Yes - the main control board and drain pump are part of a common chain of failure with this board. If your drain pump tests good and drains normally, it may not need replacing.

This is the inverter / motor control board for many GE washing machines. If your GE front load washing machine does not spin, this is the board that will resolve the issue.

Note that other common failures on these style of GE frontload machines may also involve replacing the control board, and/or drain pump as there is a common chain of failure involving these 3 items. However, if the machine will run/operate and only shows an inverter control board error, causing the machine not to spin, this will be the only component needing to be replaced.
