Description

Made of ADC12 and zinc alloy, these hubs are a massive upgrade from the traditional Whirlpool washing machine hubs that can strip out when the gear shaft has been compromised and will give an otherwise condemned machine new life. Whirlpool used to utilize these in older-era machines and removed them from factory installation on or around 2014, but continued selling the hubs for legacy models. Unbeknownst to most technicians, this hub would be forward-compatible with any unit that utilizes W10528947 hubs.

Version 2:

Due to selling so many of these hubs, we've created a major revision from the factory that produced the hubs for us. We were the 1st company to create an aftermarket version which many companies copied.

The new V2 hub has:

  • Additional tangs on the hub for better retention of the drive block
  • Revised / Thicker drive block for better tightening onto drive shaft
  • Deeper splines of hub to drive into gearcase for better adhesion to degraded drive shaft systems.

These were all updates/upgrades to the system that we believe improve performance above and beyond competitors, including the Whirlpool OEM solution.

Installation Instructions (MUST CLICK!)

Note that you MUST use blue threadlocker on the tub nut to secure it properly to the drive block. This is not included with the orders as many customers may already have this (locktite, ect). If you do not have any, please consider ordering the 2ml tube which contains enough to properly lock the tub nut, as well as wash bolt into place.

Additionally, a spanner wrench is needed to lock the nut in place. It requires the common TB123A or B wrench, which we do carry.

Not a Job for the Faint of Heart

I bought the drum hub to repair my daughter’s Whirlpool, Model WTW5000DW1. I removed the agitator with some difficulty using two vise grips each clamping an “L” shaped piece of wire coat hanger. I inserted them into holes on opposite sides of the agitator and pulled and wiggled the agitator with quite a bit of force. I kept switching sets of holes, working my way around the agitator. After what seemed like forever, the agitator popped off. (That was the worst part of the job, until the metal shim.)

I put removable tape over the drain holes under the agitator to guard against the screws from falling in instead of having a clump of towels in my way. The old plastic hub came off without issue and I covered the screw holes in the tub with removable tape to keep debris from failing into them. I cleaned up the splines on the gearcase shaft with a utility blade and a wire brush. NOTE: There is a rubber O-ring on the middle of the shaft, so be careful not to cut it up.

A metal shim came with the kit. Step 3 of the instructions reads, “Install metal shim in between gearcase and tub. This should press into place by tapping with hammer or other object.”

I made the mistake, and with some difficulty I might add, of ACTUALLY INSTALLING that metal shim in between gearcase and tub. BAD MOVE. After it was in place, the tub would not slide up on the gearcase shaft to eliminate the HUGE gap between the tub and the new drum hub. If I couldn’t pull the tub up to the new drum hub, the screws were certainly not going to do it. So, again with a great deal of difficulty, I managed to remove that useless metal shim. At the point, I could readily lift the tub with one hand using a 2x2 with one end under the lip of the top of the tub and the other against the side of the drum to tighten the screws.

I TRIED to use the new stainless steel screws to fasten the drum hub to the tub, but they appeared to have threads that were “ever so slightly” different from those of the old stainless steel screws. When I turned them “counterclockwise” to get them started so as not to cut new threads in the holes of the plastic tub, they didn’t want to drop back into the threads that were already cut into the holes of the plastic tub. So, I set them aside an reused the original screws without any issues.

Everything else went as planned with the hub nut, BLUE threadlocker, and agitator screw with threadlocker. I did put plumbers silicone grease on the splines on the gearcase shaft to hopefully make it easier to remover the agitator again, if need be.

Finally, I Installed new OEM suspension rods and recalibrated the machine. And now, the machine doesn’t jump around nearly as bad as before, BUT it still isn’t right. Bummer!

Works like a charm. Very easy install. Only way to save us from buying a new washer. Thanks Ben’s Appliance & Junk

Just Follow the Instructions

The part came quickly, installed simply and the washer feels rock solid. The spanner wrench also made quick work of tightening the hub.

It worked

I own a WTW500DW3 since May of 2021. While not unreliable it developed a bad shake diring spin cycle so loud i could hear it 50 feet away from my detached laundry room. In fact the washer would move itself 8 or 9 inches and bang into the twin WED1485 unit and move it. The hub, in conjunction with 4 new OEM rods loaded with blue grease and the red bearing has fixed the issue. Ive done several big loads and the washer hasnt moved an inch. Bens video will guide you and its worth saving your 5-700 dollar unit. Thanks Ben. ALSO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND JUST BUYING A NEW WASHPLATE AND ANTICIPATING DESTROYING YOIR OLD ONE...i purchased mine new OEM from eBay and instead of fooling with it i just destroyed and replaced it.

No more shaking!

Good quality replacement parts. Far better than stock OEM. Heavy duty. The YouTube video explains how to replace the parts very well. Thanks.
