The motor works with the belt to turn the drum and is directly attached to the blower fan to pull the heat through the dryer, venting it out the back.
If your dryer makes a buzzing or grunting noise on start up or your dryer shuts off after 15-20 minutes and won't start again until it is cooled off, the motor would probably need replaced.
