Do I also need the red 52719 tub bushing or a shim kit?

No - not always. Replace the 52719 bushing if it's worn; it works with this hub or the W10324651-BA metal hub. A shim kit helps only if the shaft is worn or the hub still has play.

Do I need a spanner wrench to install this hub?

Yes - a TB123A or TB123B spanner wrench is used to tighten the tub nut, and blue threadlocker is strongly recommended on the nut.

Will a new hub stop my washer from shaking and walking during spin?

No - not if the suspension rods are worn. Walking and rocking in spin is often rod wear, so check the rods too; many repairs replace them along with a loose or stripped hub.

My new hub stripped after only a few washes. Why?

Check the transmission shaft splines - if they're rusty or worn, they can't grip the hub properly, and even a metal hub may not last.

Placing the washer hub was much simpler than the red bushing, this part needed to be replaced before the hub. We found that pounding the red bushing into the bottom of the washing tub took more effort than we expected. We came close to giving up and re-using the original, but we knew the inside of it was worn. We applied a little liquid soap and found it easier to pound into position. The next challenge was even bigger. "Getting the tub back into the washing machine". It was such a tight fit, the struggle involved lifting the tub back out several times to realign in our attempts to position the inner tub over center gear shaft. The videos make it look so easy. Once we got it back together, placing the hub was rather simple. From here we reset the cycles, did a test run with water only. No more noisy banging with spin cycle. We are sure that we now have 5+ years before replacing this washing machine. Thanks to "Bens Appliances" for the parts we needed being readily available, shipped quickly, and very reasonably priced.
