My old icemaker is DA97-15217A, DA97-15217B, DA97-12317A or DA97-15335A. Will this replace it?

Yes - DA97-15217D is the current updated version and replaces DA97-15217A, DA97-15217B, DA97-12317A and DA97-15335A. A different ending letter is expected.

My icemaker keeps freezing up and frosting over. Will a new icemaker fix it?

No - not always on its own. Recurring frost usually comes from moisture or warm air entering the ice room. Pairing it with the Samsung Ice Maker & Moisture Heater Kit helps reduce icing.

Do I need to replace the auger or other parts along with this icemaker?

No - not usually. Replace the auger assembly only if it is damaged or also failing. Diagnose the problem first rather than replacing everything at once.

It chimes when I press the test button but never makes or dumps ice. Is the icemaker bad?

Yes - usually. If the test button only chimes and no harvest starts, or it only ejects ice after thawing, an internal motor, heater or sensor is failing and the assembly should be replaced.

I installed the new icemaker and it chimes but makes no ice. What should I check?

Give it time - the first ice usually takes 48-72 hours while the freezer reaches temperature, so wait over 72 hours. Then check the water supply, filter, fill tube for ice, and that the bin is seated.

Does this come with the control board?

No - this is the icemaker assembly only. The control board is a separate part and is not included.

Is this the long icemaker for full-depth fridges or the short one for counter-depth?

This is the longer 10-cube icemaker for full-depth Samsung refrigerators. Counter-depth models use the shorter DA97-13718C. Unsure? Contact us with your model number.

What can damage the icemaker?

Overheating the ice cabinet with a hair dryer, heat gun or other very hot warming device can warp or damage the icemaker's plastic.

These icemakers are a common part of the ice maker not working failure, and are also prone to warping or damage when the ice making cabinet is overheated by a hair dryer or other extremely hot warming device that isn't the defroster.

I have an 11 year old Samsung Refrigerator that would freeze up and build up ice that would then get into the fan making a terrible racket. This fixed it perfectly and wasn’t at all difficult to install.

If it works at all, it did better than Samsung's version, the can't fix the faulty Samsung design. Also, you have to confirm plug in direction, the plug was different, but fits.

Worked Well For Me

I had spent weeks trying to figure out what the problem with my Samsung fridge was. I had already replaced the water filter assembly thinking it was a bad solenoid stopping my fridge from making ice. It turns out it was the laser cutoff receiver on the ice maker itself that stopped sensing the beam transmitted by the auger assembly unit. This replacement ice maker fit it perfectly and started making ice within a few hours once it got cold enough.

Far as Samsung as a whole, poor engineering on their machines. The Refrigerator or any Samsung product, I will not ever purchase in the future.

Ben's as always been solid with products, pricing, and helpful information. Only had the Ice making for 21 days. Hard to write a review about the product in a short period of time. All is well now. Reach out in a year or two. Better info at that time for sure.

Great low price

I had an issue with our icemaker where the cube tray would not completely rotate sometimes. I've replaced both auger and ice maker. The new unit spins faster than the old. I have to turn off the maker because it makes too much ice.

Works great!

I’m not sure what was wrong with my old original ice maker but it quit making ice. I thought maybe one of the plastic gears had stripped but after tearing it apart before throwing it in the trash, I ruled that out. Anyway, this new replacement ice maker solved the problem. The video was a big help but I still managed to break a couple tabs while pulling the old one out. I also tried to get some of the ice buildup out of the slide-in compartment using the steam from cups of hot water but ultimately had to put the refrigerator into defrost mode to get it to break free. The ice maker now works and I couldn’t be happier with it.

NOT SURE YET

Put the icemaker heating system in this new icemaker. Seemed to run very slow. Put the old icemaker back in and it seemed to run faster. Also sealed off the icemaker box with HVAC tape. I think the old one is now working just fine, but sometime this winter I will try the new one with the heater system. I hate Samsung.

Good replacement

There are many videos on line showing how this can be installed. Only took me about 30 minutes. Problem I had was the ir receiver failed. Replacing this unit solved the problem.

Had it hooked up and going in half an hour.

Works better than the old one when it was new.
